USA 2-0 Australia Qualifies for R32

Following this 2-0 success over Australia, USA are through to the Round of 32 irrespective of the outcome in the later Türkiye-Paraguay game. They are now certain to finish at the very least as one of the best third-place teams.

For just the second time in their history, USA have begun a World Cup with two straight wins and their reward is qualification from Group D. For Australia, the damage was done with the two goals – Cameron Burgess' own goal from Folarin Balogun's low cross and Alex Freeman's close-range header from Sergino Dest's deflected strike – which capped off the co-hosts' fast start in Seattle. Australia came back into it after half-time but to no avail.
